lake city cemeteries
Lake City is home to Lakewood Cemetery, St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Cemetery, Oakwood Cemetery, St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Bethany Cemetery, and a group of burial mounds–an ancient cemetery–built by the ancestors of indigenous Dakota people.
Research tip: there is a cemetery named Lakewood located in Minneapolis as well as this one in Lake City. Burial records for all modern Lake City cemeteries are available at the Lake City Public Library. Photographs are from past cemetery tours. Lake City Historical Society volunteers portray students of Lou Ella Peterson at recess, Patrick Rahilly, an 1880s Minnesota State Senator, and Ole Chinberg, a local blacksmith with his wife Anna. |
